Fiona 11th December 2020

Thank you, David for being a wonderful Uncle. I always enjoyed your visits with Granny when I was little. It was like the King and Queen were coming, especially when you both rolled up in the Rolls Royce Cloud! I remember Dad moving our car to make space outside the house. You were then so generous to allow me and my friend a ride around Whitefield-we did feel like royalty! I loved my stays at your house, marvelling at your fascinating music room and enjoyed spending time in the walled garden and summer house with you. Your generosity was paramount in helping me in the steps to becoming a musician and I remember opening my first violin with you. You were always a great support through my time at the RNCM and it was a comfort to know your office door was always open for a chat. Thank you for taking me with you to the Rehearsal Orchestra in Edinburgh, it was wonderful to work with you there. There was no end to your talents. Dinners at your house were the true fine dining experience that you created and an introduction to fine wines. Conversation would inevitably turn to music, and your stories of your time at the Hallé with Barbirolli were so entertaining. We often ended up listening to a favourite recording of yours with you conducting and singing along! You were so selfless in looking after Granny after her stroke, understanding her needs when she couldn’t speak and your love for each other was so strong. Thank you for always remembering the boys’ birthdays. They fondly remember playing hide and seek in your lovely garden. It was difficult for them to understand the family relationship, so you became Great David! So true. We’ll all miss you. Please say Hello to Granny. All our love, Fiona, Julian, Jay and Aaron. xxxx
