Grandpa, I have many childhood memories of you and Grandma visiting us. While these visits were wonderful, they were never long enough. There was always an obligatory visit to the bird sanctuary, your passion, one I do not share with you. When I lived in the UK I spent periodic weeks over the years staying with you and Grandma. I loved this time with you both. We spent a lot of time in the kitchen, talking recipes and preparing food – a shared passion. Your meals were amazing, especially for an Aussie backpacker. Our children (your great grandchildren) proclaimed you to always choose the ‘the best birthday cards’ for which you never forgot. They have fond/funny memories of the dessert you made when you hosted a family lunch for our visit. You were gracious, kind, devoted and so very patient especially with Grandma after her stroke. Thank you for looking after my Teddy for so long, you wanted him to come back to Australia with me when I returned, I am so glad he stayed with you. He will now immigrate to Australia. May you rest in peace with Grandma, despite the distance you will be very much missed by us all and never forgotten. Love always Julie, Derek, Tegan, Brandon & Chloe XXXXXOOOOO (yes hugs too 😊
